Houston Real Estate - Houston Homes, Houston Home Value and Houston Relocation lets you search the MLS listings in Houston. Search for # of bed rooms, price, area etc.
The suburbs are still nice

Default Sweetwater Area in Sugar Land

He was going to get $20mil total from the state over the course of the years, to help pay for his development. If it had actually happened, which it didn't.
I hadn't travelled through this neighborhood in years until last weekend. When I did, I was FLOORED. The area had grown so much, so many new homes had been built, and they were HUGE. I swear, there were houses comparable to English countryside homes I had seen outside of London that were owned by nobles and minor gentry! A few of the SMALLER ones were having open houses and they were in the $1.5 MM range. Just amazing. There must have been over 100 homes even larger and I'm guessing well over $2 MM. Several dozen were these "castles" that must have been $10MM or more extrapolating. Where are these people coming from that afford CEO and sports/celebrity houses in humble Houston. There aren't that many rap stars and basketball allstars in Houston, are there?

Love this comment. I think people who don't live near this proposed development should stay out of it. Those of us who do are neck deep in it, and I don't think it will end up getting built. If it does...well at least I'm zoned to different schools.

I feel your pain. You're right, people who have no skin in the game need not comment. The LAST thing you want is for section 8 or HUD housing built in your community. That brings with it drugs, prostitution, gangs, etc. I know, I grew up right in the middle of it. It inspired me to bust my butt and get a college degree so I can afford to raise my own family far away from it. Now I can and I will make NO APOLOGIES whatsoever for wanting the best neighborhoods and schools for my kids that I can possibly afford. Anyone else who wants the same can work hard to attain it. They shouldn't expect to have it handed to them.

It's funny how people already know what is going to happen.

Also, will people please stop using the excuse that they are black, and I should not get on them for saying the things they say. It has a lot less to do with you being black, and more to do with class difference now a days.

p.s. This is directed at anyone in particular.

You have to read through a lot of the thread to really get it. It's not to hard though. It means exactly what it means. It's not exactly on topic though.

I don't want to live near people who grew up in section 8/HUD housing, you know why? Because those people never make anything of themselves.

They do--think cities like Boston, NYC, SF where land/building preservation is key. It's all a matter of circumstance.

The parents have every right to be concerned.

Also, an unincorporated area or a smaller suburban city isn't going to have the same services (community centers, job programs, etc.) the same way a major city would. So now you'll have a bunch of bored kids trying to find something to do. Some of these kids can be easily influenced to do the wrong thing.
Great. I agree people have a right to be concerned about what is being built. It's just funny how some people hear the words "low income" and assume World War III is going to break out in their backyard.. Maybe you could help lead a group of these students in volunteering and community service, instead of letting them play World of Warcraft all day. There's no reason a suburb shouldn't have these services. Some of your kids are headed down the same road, they're just coming from the opposite direction.
