"The proposal has received an overwhelming amount of opposition, including resolutions from the Katy Independent School District, Katy Area Economic Development Council, City of Katy, City of Houston and area homeowners associations, as well as letters of opposition from the offices of State Rep. Bill Callegari and State Sen. Joan Huffman and Glenn Hegar."

KATY, TX (KTRK) -- Eyewitness News has confirmed that plans to build some low income housing near the Katy Mills Mall have come to an end.

Last week, we told you how those who live near the proposed site were concerned about the proposal to build 176 apartments next to the Grand Harbor subdivision. On Friday, the developer confirmed they decided to pull out of the project after realizing that income levels in the area are higher than the government program allows for the development. He also acknowledged that the public was heavily against the idea, and says the city council was planning to block the deal, too.

Wow, impressive list of supporters on the side of residents -- resolutions from the City of Katy, KISD, Katy Area Economic Development Council...

That was fast! Too bad when it happened in Sugar Land last year, we had no such public support from the City of Sugar Land or any other of these sorts of entities. It was all up to the residents to stop it, and the developer didn't pull the application until all sorts of dirt was dug up by residents on the landseller and realtor, months into the process.

Maybe the city of Katy recognizes that bad development will affect them directly even if it's not within their city limits... which is great. Can't say the same about city of Sugar Land, unfortunately. At least from what I've seen.

Of course, people against low-income housing must be racist!
