In some other cities, retailers that sell motor oil are required to accept used motor oil. I know Houston has a recycling facility that accepts used motor oil on Westpark, but I'm looking for more convenient alternatives.

Check with your local auto parts stores. They typically accept used oil.

Take the used oil to any auto parts store. They do not charge to receive it. They just pour it into larger drum destined for recycling. It does not matter if you have ever made a purchase in that store before. Many businesses that do oil changes will also take the used oil for free.

DO NOT DUMP IT DOWN THE SEWER OR ON THE GROUND. this would be BAD, VERY BAD

Your closest Autozone or Oreilly should be able to handle your used motor oil. Good to know I'm not the only Houstonian that does his own oil changes.
