Good way to get to know your neighbors. I dont think they would make you go to an area you were uncomfortable with.

Make sure you get as high of a score as possible. There are 28 questions. There are so many people taking the test they are pretty much only hiring 25+ scores.

They want to hire people that live in Alief and will feel comfortable and right at home. Plus if its a really bad area you may go out in twos...Census puts safety first!

I feel like the Census PR person.... It may be that each area was allotted a budget and of course part of that includes salaries. I live in a really decent part of Irving TX so not much of a risk factor but it pays 17.50 so maybe TX got more funding than say Ohio!! I was surprised to at the difference.
