What do you think the best playground/park is for kids? I used to live in Minnesota as a kid, and they are unrivalled for amazing playgrounds with huge slides and climbing walls, etc. A lot of the ones in Sugar Land (where we live) are... meh. Tiny little neighborhood parks with a slide or 2. Are there any cool parks in Houston that we shouldn't miss?

I really like Bear Creek Park but it may be a little far for you. It's fantastic because it's free and it has animals (in cages) - Bison, deer, pigs, birds and more plus water with ducks. Multiple play areas with picnic tables, soccer and baseball fields. It can get crowded on the weekends but week days aren't as bad.

The park at Memorial for kids is fabulous! (behind St. Teresa's church) - we also like the park at 7th and Heights...but these are both close to us. It depends where you live!

Discovery Green downtown. It has a water play area, playground, cafe, large grassy areas, dog park etc. Visitors to the park are very diverse.

Another vote for Hermann Park. I really like the fact that they have a variety of playground structures geared towards the age and the development of the child. There is a section for toddlers, one for younger children, and another for older children. There is even a section for waterplay. However, they only turn the water on during the summer months. Also, Hermann Park is near the zoo, the museums, and there is a train that goes around the park. It makes for a perfect day.

Bear Creek is another favorite of mine as well.
