Default UH furloughs

This ought to be really big news, but the media doesn't seem to care, even though it suggests that either:
A. Houston/Texas' economy is in way worse shape than everyone says
B. Houstons/Texans don't give a crap about higher education
C. All of the above

It's a multiple choice test, folks. Get used to them if you plan to attend UH. Keep cutting professors' pay and I guarantee they won't be spending their time grading essay exams.

They should take this time, like other companies, to get rid of poor performing employees (just because some one has a PhD doesn't mean they will care about their job for years and years to come). I can name a few they should consider from the engineering department if they need help.

D. Texans are going elsewhere for higher education???

I know most of the seniors are leaving the state for college around here. Sure, there's the normal, I can't go anywhere but UT crowd, but many are heading for the Alabama, NC,MI, some of those brand name schools in the NE, and CA.

Yes, that's true. It's too bad... I wish our local universities, especially UH, could do more to attract good students. Maybe over time if the quality continues to improve (which may be unlikely, if Perry remains governor) the reputation will improve as well. But failing to pay the people who work for you isn't a good way to improve quality, that's for sure.

UH has been trying to attract better students by building the new housing facility(don't know where they got the money for that) and the new metro rail station.

but at the end of the day UH is a school that is designed for people that decide to go back to school and for
Students that don't have the resources to move out of their houses and live on campus. But this sometimes works to the benefit of UH by giving great students a place to go to school without having to significantly altering their life. Some people don't buy into the college experience.

They even entice students with big scholorships but most of these students would rather go to A&M(as the case with my lil brother) which is a tier 1 school compared to a tier 4 school that UH is.

But it is gettin better but there is still so much work to do
