Remember all the discussions we've had on this forum about turning left across traffic, and do you inch out, or not, and what lights protect you, and on and on. You're gonna love this!

Here is an excerpt from an article on Swamplot:

Quote:
Coming soon: the greater Houston area’s first-ever flashing yellow arrow left-turn traffic lights, in 5 signals around the Sugar Land Business Park near West Airport Blvd. and Dairy Ashford! Will you know how to handle them? “The flashing yellow ‘instinctively implies caution,’ which is the preferred reaction when drivers make judgment calls about turning left into a gap in traffic, said city officials. . . .

When approaching the intersection, a solid red arrow indicates a required stop – left turning drivers must stop. Drivers must also stop at a solid yellow arrow. A flashing yellow arrow requires motorists to first yield to oncoming traffic and pedestrians before proceeding to turn left.
The rest of the story is here...

I don't need a FYA to tell me when to turn left when the oncoming traffic is clear. If folks can't judge distance and speed of traffic they shouldn't be driving.

I would agree that retiming traffic signals reduces fuel consumption and emissions, but I sure would like to see the full report on that research for FYAs at intersections that was reported to DOT.

Just my 2 cents

Yes, and possibly a weird waste of money as well.

I'm in the area and it's a good thing during non-business hours when there is no traffic. You don't have to wait for the light to change. It doesn't interrupt traffic in the other direction. If you have to wait more than 10 approximately seconds to make your turn, the lights will cycle thru and I will get the green arrow.

I did notice one light where the straight thru light was red and the left turn was a blinking yellow. That probably shouldn't be - but other that that - no complaints.

Thank Heavens, it's (so far) in a part of the City that many people don't regularly venture into -- The Sugar Land Business Park.
