Animals will never stand around the campfire holding hands...someone will always get eaten.

I actually agree, too. But the absence of money could very possibly eliminate many social ills. Reputation is considered as a possible future replacement for money. The overall point I'm trying to make is that the future is something that could be very qualitatively different than today, and it's possible that our current economic system could be proven obsolete with new technologies. That's all I'm saying. How far off in the future when that's going to be is anyone's guess.

ex. What I mean by reputation -- Barack Obama is FAR from being the richest person the world, but his influence and fame within our society are unparalleled.

Perhaps. I'd wager he's a lot more famous than you and i. His position in our government means a lot more than your CityData rep. points, that's for sure.

Sometimes we like money.... Sometimes it's the power we crave. Do not be fooled by the facade. I have never met a politician that did not have an alterior motive. They all seem to be addicted to that old high school popularity contest.

The point is leaders will always be scarce, and perhaps an aim we will compete for "to show we are the best" in the absence of money is to be leaders or in a leadership position of some kind. I'm just using politicians as an example.

Except for in Texas and other red states. Everything he does is bad, bad, bad, wrong, wrong, wrong. We'll see how his influence and fame affect the legislation in Arizona, although I suspect its unconstitutional nature will get it overturned rather quickly.
