My husband and I are planning to relocate to the Houston area. Unfortunately for us, I have a job in Stafford and have found day cares that I LOVE in Sugar Land for the kids, but his job will be on the North side-near Spring. I am thinking maybe Katy would be a good half-way spot for both of us, but am not familiar with the commute both ways. Any Houstonians have any feedback for me? Also, it looks like Katy would be a nice area to buy a home and has good schools once the kids are old enough to go to public...is that true?

Thanks!

I live in Katy and worked in Sugarland for almost two months. I took the 99 down to the 6...it took about 30-45 minutes depending on the traffic. I got used to it..but was sure glad my job relocated to Katy.

There are a lot of day cares out here that are equally as good. If you plan to move to Katy; it is better to have them in a day care close to home (that is my opinion).

Housing in Katy is far more affordable than Sugarland..but it depends on your price range....

Either way both places aren't too bad...it's just the matter of opinion.

It sounds like a good plan to me. Katy is a popular suburb (with great schools) and it's the best middle neighborhood for both jobs.

One other possibility is 77079, it gives you both good access to Beltway 8 & splits the drive for both commutes. Har.com section 23 zip 77079 has amazing schools.

Don't look into Cypress or your commute to SL will double, your husband would have an easier commute though.
