Default Rental Car needed for 2-3 weeks any ideas?

To make a long story short, I was heading to Galveston for a beach day and an 18 wheeler lost a tire and it smashed into my car, now I need a longer term rental that's not going to break the bank any ideas.

Many rental companies give discounts for longer term rentals but I will add that they also penalize you for turning it in too early so make sure and ask each company for the details.

Default Points

Whatever you do, check with your preferred airline frequent flyer club and see who give you points for renting cars. For example, Continental has a deal where you will accumilate X miles per rental, so if you are in OnePass, rent with the rental car company that partners with CO and collect points.

Since you wil need it for three weeks, rent for only one week at a time, and get another contract as you get the points per rental.

I recall once CO had a riduculous scheme with Marriot and you got something like 10-15K points for a stay... so I went to a conference and stayed in three different Marriot hotels!

Try Priceline, bid on you own rental car. I got a intermediate car for $9 a day. Stay away from airport locations though!

Get your car online...there are MANY discounts..I rented a car for a week from Budget and it only cost me around $200..and it was for a little SUV...but this was back last year..

Good luck...I am switching my insurance up to add the rental car...you might want to do that too in the future..
