Cushing has been rumored to be on things for a long time. It seems the only people defending him are from Houston.

Definitely more than that. Just watch ESPN or NFLN. But, I mean, it should be obvious why more people from Houston are supporting him.

It's pretty close to a foregone conclusion that Cushing is doing something with anabolic androgens, and it looks like he's making a futile vehement denial of any wrongdoing but I'm not sure he really has any other choice. Don't be surprised or indignant that he isn't spilling his guts.

It also seems as if a lot of people here think that if they went out and did a few cycles that they too could have been the greatest outfielder and hitter that ever lived, a hall of fame pitcher or first-team all-pro as a rookie.

I'm not saying its okay because everyone is doing it, I'm not saying I believe that he has no idea why the levels of human chorionic gonadotropin in his urine are/were elevated and I'm not saying he's my hero.

I'm saying that the kid just wants to play ball and while there is undeniable suspicion, there is no proof. He'll likely be under incredible scrutiny for the remainder of his career, he's being punished in a manner that will probably have an effect on the outcome of the Texans' season and he's going to have to keep his head down and wade through a lot of shame for a long time. In other words, he's getting what he deserves and then some. I want to keep watching the kid play because he has a very special talent and I think he'll reprise his 2009 season with a vengeance. The only reason I can come up with for all this hatred and scum-of-the-earth rhetoric is that some people don't like to feel as small as they are. Schadenfreude.

Is anyone really that misguided? Steroids can't turn an average joe into an all-star... but sustained used over a number of years can earn an average athlete a college scholarship... and can earn someone who would have been an average college player their first pro contract. It's about being able to recover quicker from injuries and being able to workout/train harder and longer. Obviously Cushing had the natural ability and desire to be a very good athlete... but PED use very well could be the reason he is the NFL Def ROY rather than a former starting LB for a Div II college.

In light of the valid and good points above, I would like to issue an amendment to my earlier post.

That portion of my post reading as follows:
"It also seems as if a lot of people here think that if they went out and did a few cycles that they too could have been the greatest outfielder and hitter that ever lived, a hall of fame pitcher or first-team all-pro as a rookie."

Is hereby amended to read:
"It also seems as if some people here think that if they went out and did a few cycles that they too could have been the greatest outfielder and hitter that ever lived, a hall of fame pitcher or first-team all-pro as a rookie."

And why is this a surprise? More than half the NFL is probably juicing. We only hear about the ones who're dumb enough to get caught.

Next time be smarter with your steroid use, Bryan.

Except he didn't test positive for steroids, any performance-enhancing drug, or masking agent, but okay.

you forgot to add "injections taken with steroid cycles used to compensate for hormone deficiencies"... oh wait, that's cause he did test positive for that.

You forgot to say his levels were so low, he would have been fine last year. League changed their rules just before the season. But, if the injections were taken with steroid cycles, then why didn't he test positive for steroids?
