Hi,

Sorry about been repetitive.

I am planning to visit Houston in August with a view to relocating in the near future. I have the following questions:

What are some of the nice, safe and affordable hotels I can stay near The Medical Center and Galleria? I know about Westin but that is too expensive.

1. Apart from the Galleria, can you recommend other sites/places I can visit?

2. What is public transportation like in Houston? What about cabs?

3. What are some of the decent areas to live in near TMC for a single mom with young kids? I don't mind apartments or houses and I will be renting. (Of course I know this depend on what I can afford).I just need suggestions and then I can research the areas on Har.com.

4. What are some of the good school districts in the area? I have a 4 yr old and a 9 month old.

What is the weather like in August? I want to visit during the summer and winter and possibly spring before I relocate next year.

Thanks everyone.

I think this is the place my family stayed:
Houston Hotels: SpringHill Suites Houston Medical Center/Reliant Park hotel: Spacious, studio suites in a Downtown Houston hotel near Reliant Stadium, Astrodome, Reliant Park

It's near the Medical Center. Can't say for sure if it's walkable to the light rail; you'd have to map it.

When looking for a rental apartment try to get one zoned to Poe, Roberts, or West U elementary. You'll be close to the medical center and these are all good schools.

Public transportation is generally inadequate. Budget for a car if you can.

Weather in August is terrible. Unbearable, even. Worst time of the whole year. The rest of the year is far more pleasant.
