I think the nigerian community in Houston (largest in the US) will help the Houston black poppulation to grow.The US accepts more and more nigerians each year (6,000 in 2000 but 15,000 in 2009), and nigerians make many babies ^^"

Nigerians are not black . These so-called blacks you are trying to consider in the black American immigrants who were never brought over into this country during slavery.Those Nigerians are Africans , not black Americans. They do not consider themselves to be black anyway and since they are from from Africa , they are like Mexicans , Eastern Indians , Koreans ,Romanians , or anyother new wave of foreign immigrant. Blacks are the only race that had never migrated in this country, so when they were made to leave Africa , they were also force into slavery and Jim Crow. Plus blacks have also contributed so much to this country when you have these foreign immigrants riding their coat tails after some black Americans died and missed out on the real American Black Americans have also fought hard for this country when those Nigerians or other foreign Africans done nothing but come over here illegally ,taking from this country ,and not paying their dues like everyone else have. So ,Nigeria are not black and they have never experience the black American struggles and oppressions.

Honestly, I'm not. DFW added more African Americans in the 90s as well. DFW has been a magnet for Black Americans the past 20 years. I think it has the 2nd fastest growing Black population behind obviously Atlanta since 1990.

No disrespect to your ideology, but I don't think Houston is going for that title.

IMHO:

I think having a title like that yes, it will attract people of one racial group to a city, but others not so much.

I admire the cultural diversity of Chicago, Los Angeles, New York City, and San Francisco. IMHO, these are very humble cities about their culture, because they don't primarily focus on a title for any one racial group over another.

They are simply being themselves, and that would be that they are being the "melting pots" that makes them great places to live. I know Atlanta is also a very diverse city, but when you think of it, do you think of the Chinese people that live there? Or the German people? How about the Korean people? No, you think of it's African American people first. Just as you think heavily of Irish people for Boston, and other Europeans as well.

When I think of Los Angeles, I think of people of nearly every background all in one place, Latin American, Asian, European, and African.

When I think of Houston, I think of it's Asian, African, Latin American, and etc.

Same thing with Chicago, and New York City. These are integrated cities, and their title is the name of their city.

Los Angeles = Los Angeles
San Francisco = San Francisco
Houston = Houston
Dallas = Dallas
New York City = New York City
Chicago = Chicago

But when racially thinking of these cities;
El Paso = Mexican/Hispanic
Atlanta = Black "mecca"
Boston = European/Irish

I would have the first group any day over the second group.

I know I've stated this many times before, but this is why I think Houston and Dallas following in Los Angeles's footsteps is a great thing. No matter how much criticism LA gets, it's still an amazing city at the end of the day no matter what haters say. Same with Houston and Dallas. They don't need a title.

Good grief, here we go again comparing Houston -- a city with an approx 25% Black population -- to several cities that are well over 50% (Detroit is over 80%) and have extensive histories in that culture in comparison. And no need to get into city versus metro and numbers versus percentages for the 100th time on here. I don't get the trying to make Houston into other cities and into something it's not. Houston is Houston, it's really not a mecca of any kind to any one race; it's more of a melting pot, and hopefully stays that way. Far more interesting...
