Well, we should say 1 million, +10,000 or -10,000.

It will be great to see Houston Metro's AA population exceed 1 million. Don't we all get tired of hearing Atlanta as being self-proclaimed "Black Mecca?" That's why I'm routing Houston on!

It shouldn't always be a competition.

As long as they are hard working, upwardly mobile, don't depend on the government, are respectable, and act like humans than I don't care if there is 1 million or 10 million.....OTOH if they are anything like the welfare leeches, crime ridden, lazy, disrespectful hood rats like the ones that INVADED Houston after Katrina, I'd soon there be ZERO!

There are cities with larger African American population then Atlanta, but Atlanta has a lot of culture. Especially hip hop. That nickname will always stay with Atlanta.

And yes, we're above the one million mark. If my math is correct, we're at 1.02 million. 1,020,330 or so.

Texas has had one of the fastest growing black populations in the country for the last couple of years; one year it was number 1.

True. I don't care too much about the Black Mecca thing. As a black man; Houston (Texas in geneal) was fine before reaching the 1 million mark and it will be after. Before reading up on it; I though Houston had already passed it just cruising around the city.

I understand what you guys are saying, but it will just be great to see Houston, a land of opportunities, culture, diversity, etc., have more than a million blacks like some of its counterparts.

Actually, there is only one city now and it's New York. Atlanta just recently passed Chicago.
