Default What kind?

What kind of fan, outdoor, or indoor? Outdoor fans are not cheap, they are about $450 dollars for a good one!

Sounds like maybe you bought the furniture last year

I won't shock you (like I was shocked) with what new backyard and patio furniture cost for our new house, enough and large enough pieces to entertain an extended family (let's just say you got off easy). But suffice it to say that since wife picked it ALL out, and signed the sales tickets, she IS and WILL CONTINUE TO BE happy with it. I find that having her sign the sales tickets is a key ingredient to her happiness with home furnishings. Like the time, in our early marriage, when she INSISTED on going to a Vegas style floor show in the Bahamas. I warned her not to do it, and made HER sign the credit card receipt. So when the full frontal nudity scene appeared, I got zero grief, then and to this day.

I went to this place and all I can say is ... WOW! 1500 sq/ft of displayed inventory and 6500 sq/ft of warehouse. Casablanca, Hunter, Emerson... lighting out the wahzoo! I walked out with five Casablanca fans with light fixtures, down rods and an accent ceiling lamp for under $1200. All were Energy Star so I didn't pay any taxes either (tax holiday weekend).

Thanks for the tip, jfields. Appreciate it.

Just sayin'...

There are some lighting stores close to Greenway plaza on Richmond. Not sure the names, but there are a few really close together.

I just bought two Casablanca fans to replace one that died after 23 years (only a ten-year warranty back then), and another that was a cheap-o from Home Depot. Bought them at Universal Lighting on 90A in Stafford and the prices were decent.

You can get them cheaper on the internets, but for large purchases I usually like buying local in case I have problems. It's always easier to deal with real people in person than a faceless email recipient or a voice from far away on the telephone.

And it sort of worked out that way this time, but not necessarily in a good way. After buying the fans I had an electrician do the install work because when the one fan died it twisted itself out of the ceiling (pretty cool to see happen, actually). The wiring was a mess and I decided life is too short to screw with the mess. Very good guy whose done some repair work for us before. He found that one of the fans was missing a part needed for installation.

As it was Friday at 4 PM, I rushed up the road back to Universal Lighting to see if I can't get this part so the electrician doesn't have to come back another day. I dealt with the owner, who I assumed at the time was just having a bad day, and she was totally rude. While I was explaining the situation she rolled her eyes and made some comments that all but insinuated I was either a liar or a thief who had lost the part or sold it for drug money. Since I really wanted that part right then, I just said nothing and waited while she went and robbed another fan of its part (which is probably what happened to the part missing from my original fan).

When I got back to the house with the part I told my wife we weren't going to be spending any money ever again at Universal Lighting, and she and the electrician laughed. Seemed while I was gone they had compared notes and my wife said the woman was rude to her during the buying process while the electrician said that he had customers complain about the same problem.

So, they do have a fantastic selection and the lady does know her business - but I'll never shop there again.

As with everyone in business, YMMV. She's always been nice to me and I've had to return stuff as well. I DID notice however that she treats her husband like an errand boy. LOL
