The thing with Casinos in Texas is, and I actually have read this in some state law thing and the history of casinos in Texas. The main reason they are not tolerated is due to family ruptures caused by casinos. The state of Texas does not want that kind of environment.

Gambling has caused large rifts in families before. I know it would be exhilarating to have it in Texas, it would save a trip to the Oklahoma border or to Louisiana, but it can also be a problem too.

A city that derived it's economy primarily off of tourism, conventions, casinos, hotels, was Las Vegas, and these economical times have shown the world why it's one of the last few cities you should ever spend your dollar in. There is a negative reputation for cities with large gambling scenes, good to see Texas not being apart of that one.

It would be nice to add to the economy, but Texas is smarter than the gambling stage to add to an economy.

I love going to the casino. When I go I just stick with the slots. I leave the card tables to the high rollers. When I move to Houston in the fall trips to Lake Charles will definitely be in the future. Right now when I go it's either to Shreveport/Bossier City, La or to Idabel, Ok. I agree with A&M that casinos would do very well in the Houston/Galveston area.

Thanks for agreeing! The casinos would change the shoreline with height, density, lights, etc.

We already have all that here now, even with no casinos?

If any city in Texas could use a casino, I'd say galveston needs it the most. Places such as Houston and Austin already have alot to do that doesnt call for a casino. Gavleston has to deal w/ devastation every other year. BTW: There are some that will drive as far as Mississippi to gamble.

The employee I talked to at Delta Downs said 90-95% of their business from Texas. There is very little to do in Lake Charles, Kinder and Vidor but gamble. Just imagine a nice Casino and Resort in Galveston, Corpus Christi, Austin or, Lake Conroe. There would be more to do in those cities other than Gamble. In Texas the casinos could be the kind of places you can spend a week at gaming a few nights after a day on the beach or on the water. I would like to hear ya'lls opinion.
Lake Charles and Kinder are in Louisiana. But as for Texas, I could see places such as Galveston, South Padre Island, and Corpus Christi having them, you know places that are actually on the gulf. Vidor is too close to southwest Louisiana, and as conservative as Vidor is, I don't see them wanting a casino anyway.

I'm adding to this thread even though it's old.

When I lived in Phoenix I would frequently go to the casinos nearby run by the Native American tribes. I don't know of any tribal reservations near Houston, but we do have a horse track and a dog track in town, has any thought been given to adding slot machines in those venues? Sort of like Delta Downs?

It would be nice not to drive into Louisiana to play a slot machine 3-4 times a year.
