Wow I didn't think that it would be taller than the stadium! I can't wait for this to be complete!
I'm anxious to see if we will here any more about that 15,000-seat addition to the stadium that Mayor Williams was talking about. I figure something like that is very far off though.
The idea of a mixed use residential and retail building would be fantastic. This has a ton of potential. Does anyone know what the latest plans for Dr. Touma's "University Plaza" are? I know it was announced almost two years ago and has never came to fruition. I think that would be a great spot for another mixed use building with retail on the bottom floor and residential apartments on the upper floors. It would really beautify that part of campus.
I haven't heard anything else about University Plaza but I hope it is still happening.
Mixed use buildings downtown are certainly the way to go. This would fill in some empty spots downtown, add more retail space and add more people in the downtown area. These things all working together would add to the vibe downtown already has going.
I read an article yesterday that talked about two upcoming construction projects in town. One was a $6 million project and the other was an $11 million project. Specifics weren't stated but it would be nice if one was for University Plaza to begin and the other was for a mixed use building downtown!
Wow! This would be great! It sounds like those will be some pretty high value projects. I will be anxious for them to make an announcement. A mixed building like the one below would look great at the University Plaza site and the Husson's Pizza/Black Sheep Burrito building! Hope this happens and soon!!
Something like that would be nice. Preferably though, I'd like to see something that looks like several older buildings side by side to fit with the feel of downtown. I saw several buildings like that in DC last time I visited. It really looked cool.
Yeah, I'm not a fan of that type of building for Huntington. It's not that it's ugly, but Huntington is capitalizing on this idea of reinventing itself from old industrial city to a diverse and cultural center. The reuse and readaptation of buildings bridges that gap between the old and new eras.
You see this in lots of revived Rust Belt cities. I will say that modern architecture is great as long as it can fit into the fabric of the city. Now, say the envisioned tech park between Marshall and the river is ever built, that would be a prime spot to exhibit world class modernist style as it would be a tad more isolated from downtown.
Something more along these lines is what I envision. To make it even better, you could find old pictures of buildings that used to be in Huntington and model the various facades after those original buildings. This would allow for units of any size since it is one building but it would look like several different buildings.
