Was the block with Hussons bought by Marshall? I heard rumors years ago but haven't seen anything since.
They own the building in which Husson's is located, but not the entire block. The University bought it in 2013/2014. Haven't heard or seen any plans as of yet beyond the conceptual stuff in the campus master plan.
How much are they expanding on that block? Will Marshall eventually move more into downtown over time? I've looked over the master plan but I have no idea what has been built already and what hasn't.

The plan offered ideas to just replace that building with a newer one (three- or four-story). It didn't go into any specifics about expanding that way or downtown. There are rumors of the University having an expanded presence downtown, whether a new building or possibly renovating the Morris Building, but those are just rumors for now.
I've noticed that they've put down markers in the parking lot which I would assume are precursors to the new medical campus building. Hopefully ground will break on this soon.

Are you referring to the buildings that had been proposed on the lot next to the Byrd Clinical Center and Forensic Science building? Did we ever get any more specifics on that project? Would they be close to breaking ground already?
I haven't seen anything official but yes, that's the project I was referring to. There are several markers on the western most parking lot that indicate they are starting the process of laying out the property. I wouldn't be surprised to see dirt start moving by summer.
And, President Gilbert is exactly right on target. The state's universities are faced with diminished allocations from state government, less public support, and they need more autonomy in terms of personnel issues.
