Great news for the area. I hope someone in the media plans to do a follow up story around a year after the facility opens to track the economic positives this facility will create.
1500 sure sounds pie in the sky to me. I agree on following through with keeping track of the progress toward this many jobs.
That said, I am happy to see this happening and would like to see other developments to provide our people with jobs.
The Prichard Intermodal was built at a cost of more than $33 million, and has been losing $500,000 every year since construction. Will it be on the auction block, or will it be leased to somebody?
From the article: "But in the fiscal 2020 budget, Gov. Jim Justice defunded the Public Port Authority, which is part of the state Department of Transportation."
It's a little difficult to run the property, or find a company to lease the property, when you receive no funding.
One issue with the facility is the condition of the state route to and from it. Route 52 needs to be expanded to four lanes between the intermodal facility and the I-64 interchange in Kenova. Also, there needs to be a bridge constructed over the Big Sandy River to give trucks better access to US Route 23.

I think it was anticipated that this facility would pay for itself and not need continuous subsidy. In fact, count me among those who thought it would do just that. I am surprised to see it flounder. It would be a little difficult to justify spending money on WV 52 when they are expanding 64 to six lanes throughout all of Cabell and the state has so many other major infrastructure needs elsewhere.

Gotta spend money to make it. If the investment can bring economic benefits, then it's easy to justify.
