I saw a Facebook post that Fred Pace at the Herald Dispatch reported that Bojangles has filed for a permit to build a new location on Hal Greer Blvd next to Wendy's at the Kinetic Park traffic light intersection.
I noticed that and thought the same thing elewis! More power to him if it gets those type of proactive reports in the paper. Maybe we need to find some more concrete leads for him. 😉
So this is actually new to me. I didn't know that Beltone was building anything downtown, let alone that it was already progressing. Anyone have a clue what it's looking like?

I've looked for a picture of the new building but couldn't find one. It's going to be a couple of stories and just across the street from the existing store. With the new Jeff's Bike Shop now open and Sheetz likely to start construction soon, that area of 6th Ave should see quite a bit more foot traffic.
I also noticed a small drawing on the Downtown Huntington FB Page of the back side of the 3rd Ave development and what the parking lot on 4th Ave and 8th Street will look like. Mostly the same but the back of the Market building will get some upgrades. There are also supposed to be some landscaping upgrades and even a water feature per the article about the HMDA the other day. Hopefully that will spur further development of that section of 4th Ave as well.

Yeah I'm anxious to see how 6th Avenue develops. It already has many dense apartments and is spotted with commercial nodes all the way until it ends in the West End, where is Midway is located. I can see 6th becoming a very yuppie place in the future (10-20 years).
Anyway, how is the Sheetz progressing? Any pictures?
The drawing of the Capital Ventures development both excites me and bums me out. I'm really excited to see that place realized in its entirety, but that parking lot is just a waste of space. I'm wondering what the market will be like. Will it be locally owned or are they bringing in some outside chain that can squeeze into that space?
The Sheetz hasn't even started site prep yet. I'd imagine it won't be long though and they'll likely try to have it up and running by fall the way they usually work.
Yeah I wish the parking lot was going to be something more but at least it's helping to develop that section of 3rd Ave. I'd really like to see a bigger push to turn the other lots to more productive purposes but haven't heard anything in some time. As for the market, I haven't heard anything concrete. My guess is that they'll go local but I bet they wouldn't turn down Trader Joes if they came calling!
Speaking of the 3rd Ave development, The Lost Escape Room is now open. Sounds like they have 3 different rooms and from what I've heard, it's the biggest Escape Room in the state.
Honestly, Trader Joes is the only thing that I can think of that would fit in that space and not look overly small or out of place. So I would imagine local as well.
I can't help but think that the Capital Ventures/4th Avenue & 8th Street project could be like the downtown Publix downtown location I saw in St. Petersburg FL. I believe that Publix is less than 30k square feet and is in a small, city block size development with a decent size parking lot and a detached second building that houses a handful of other businesses (Subway, H&R Block, Great Clips) in a mini strip mall style set-up.
