Another fitness center called Orangetheory has opened in Barboursville on the lower level of the Merritt's Creek Shopping Center. While it's nice to have new businesses and brands, I do feel that the area is becoming over-saturated with gyms; similar to the over-saturation we have experienced with drug stores, mattress stores, banks, and car lots.
I agree but in a state like WV we need all the fit people we can get. It does in a way remind me of the fro-yo fad a few years back. A lot of those places are closed now. But I'm not complaining if people are choosing to get in shape and not use drugs or sit around and get fat.

Definitely agree with encouraging all the exercise and fitness possible, but in general, many people in the state of WV can't afford gym memberships but the more affluent population in the Barboursville area can support several gyms. That said, we have at least 6 or 8 fitness centers in a very small radius, which includes a YMCA and the newly opened Planet Fitness. I have nothing against fitness centers, just wish we could get some new and more unique to the area types of businesses instead of the same old things that continue to become more and more duplicative.
Talked to a lady at front desk of Pullman Plaza...she said the DoubleTree remodeling will start in a month and a half and take about a year and a half to complete.
The Barboursville location is actually not listed as one that is closing. When you click on the stores in each city, the ones closing say "Closing Store." The Barboursville store is not identified as such.
It is amazing how many retailers have gone under in the last 2-3 years. Some are expecting the retail market to be the next bubble to burst. Let's hope it doesn't happen.
As I've said before, buy at your local stores when you can. Even if the store isn't locally owned you're still supporting a local worker and your taxes stay in the community. We're all busy but 99% of us aren't so busy that we can't take time to purchase goods in person.
We all like to purchase things online but not everyone displaced by a local retail store closing can work for Amazon or the other online retailers. If we all believe that people should have jobs so that they contribute to the economy then we can't take actions to eliminate those opportunities.
