Long time coming. This hotel can be such an asset to downtown. It needed a massive renovation 10-15 years ago

I was told a few days ago that the Holiday Inn and Suites downtown and at the mall were being completely renovated and turned into a Marriott Delta.

I've heard the the Holiday Inn was about to undergo some major renovations, especially with regards to the conference space, but I hadn't heard it was going to switch hands. This video speaks of some of the upgrades to the hotels starting at about the 4:30 mark.

Great video! I was in Huntington today, and noticed some of the progress along 3rd Ave. The Market looks great!

The Market does look REALLY good! It's supposed to all be up and running in the next month or two. We tried to go to Austin's last night since it's open now but it was WAY too crowded downtown. There were 2 concerts and a Marshall game going on, probably adding about 20,000 people downtown. I couldn't even get close enough to drop my family off!

Business Improvement District may be enacted downtown:

Quote:
Known as the Business Improvement District (BID), businesses, likely congregated in the downtown area, will impose a tax on themselves to pay for activities that will improve customer service and marketing, Williams said.
Quote:
Mentioning a few businesses during his speech, Williams pointed to The Market, a $7 million open-space retail market, scheduled to open in the next few weeks. Its tenants include a pizzeria, a Native American taco stand, a grocery store, a Greek restaurant, a craft beer and wine retailer and a new Austin's Ice Cream location.

He also mentioned the $10 million to $12 million in planned upgrades for the Pullman Plaza Hotel as it transforms into a DoubleTree by Hilton after an ownership change last year.

"Investment is occurring in Huntington at a rate that is unmatched in the past 50 years," Williams said. "... Our downtown is the most vibrant business core in a 100-mile radius."
