Hello!
I have a question and I would be extremely grateful if someone could help me with any information concerning this question. My husband and I are moving to Huntington in November. My husband is 25 and he is a certified personal trainer. My question is.'How possible would it be for him to find a job in Huntington?' We absolutely love this city and we are looking forward to moving there, but of course we are worried about job opportunities.
We will be happy to get any response.
Thank you.
P.S. And if anyone could give us the list of local gyms or weight loss centers or hospitals, that would be great!

I've never attempted to find a job in that field but I would guess that it would be doable here in Huntington. Here's a list of the hospitals and gyms that I know of. Hope this helps!

Well there's definately a need for it. Huntington was America's fattest city in 2008, lol!

I think it is very do-able. Best of luck to you!

The Huntington MSA was one of the most obese, not the city itself. Included in our MSA is the unhealthiest county in Ohio(Lawrence) and one of the unhealthiest in West Virginia (Wayne). The last time I checked though, all of WV has a problem. We welcome the help here though and are eager to change. By the way, county obesity rates are the lowest level reported. By the most recent stats, Cabell County 33% Raleigh County 34%. Not much room for anyone in WV to point a finger and laugh. We could all use some help.

Huntington is #3 obese city in the county, and Charleston is #5. For these reasons I imagine that there would be a market for personal trainers in this area.

Mon County obesity rate 28% Cabell County 33%. In statistics, 5% difference or less is considered statistically insignificant. Since such measures aren't an exact science, add in a margin of error of +- 4% and as pointed out earlier, no room to talk.

Tim I'm not putting down Huntington. Just stating facts. It is the most obese city in an obese state. The op wants this info to make an important career decision. Let's stick to facts and keep city pride out of this. The op is asking about Huntington and not Mon county. Anyway his presence can only help reduce Huntington's infamous obesity rate.

Thanks a lot for this comment. The thing is that we really, really like Huntington. Moving to WV from Texas is a big decision for us. My husband loves his job and he loves helping people. We would appreciate any information.

I'm not from the area so can't comment a lot. I do know this though, there is more pizza places in Huntington than gyms in wv. Huntington is the most obese city in wv and Charleston is second
So the huntington-charleston area has a lot of obesity. These areas also have an aging population.

I have a degree in economics and this would all point to there being a demand for personal trainers. I can't comment on the supply though. Perhaps there are already a lot, perhaps not. It would seem as I'd there is a glut though.

Keep in mind this area the population is spread out. So don't focus just on Huntington but the whole MSA to maximize clients. Perhaps you could try contacting the physical education department at Marshall. Another source, albeit a long shot, is to try and contact Jamie Oliver who is a celebrity chef who has taken great interest in making Huntington healthier.
