Default Downtown Huntington restaurants

I've been commuting to Huntington for work a couple times a week lately. And I've noticed the number of restaurants downtown has really increased over the past 10 years. Is a lot of this due to the energy that Pullman Plaza has brought back to downtown? It seems like the surge is allover downtown and not just isolated to the two blocks that Pullman immediately affects.

Pullman Square has definitely been the catalyst for downtown improvement and growth. Add that in with growth at Marshall, a better overlap between Huntington and Marshall along with several citizen run improvement efforts going on and you have a recipe for success. With Marshall's Art department moving downtown, the feel downtown is going to get even better. This will be especially true if they keep renovating living space downtown.

Hopefully the retail growth continues as well. They say a rising tide lifts ALL ships.

They've started a new, local initiative to promote and support the local restaurants in Huntington. It's called Savor Huntington. Here's the info from Facebook along with their sites:

Welcome to Savor Huntington! Savor Huntington is a newly-formed association of indendent restaurants. The number of good, local restaurants and food-based businesses has grown dramatically in recent years. By all accounts, it looks like that growth will continue.

Savor Huntington's goal is to support these businesses and encourage their growth. We're also going to hold fun events and promotions for foodies in the area, so that you can sample local food, explore new cuisines, and get to know other people who share your passion for food, drink, and fun
.

I tried out La Familia while on lunch break the other day, and i thought it was a really neat place. It's located on 6th Avenue in an old house. They have indoor/outdoor dining, and even a front porch swing. The pepperoni rolls were solid. It looks like they have a very diverse menu as well.

There has definately been a bigger push for local produce and producing food locally. The Wild Ramp market has been a great example of this. Local restaurants have even started using them for their produce and meat.
