With this latest announcement of Marshall’s Innovation District, it got me thinking about all of the projects currently in process or about to start. Just with a quick look for the amounts of these projects, it looks like there’s almost $1 Billion in projects currently happening or starting soon. Now, some may not be fully realized and I’m sure there are others that I’ve missed or don’t know about. I’d imagine that this kind of investment in the city in one short time frame hasn’t happened in a long time though. Here’s a list of the things I could think of. This doesn’t include renovation of the 4th Ave buildings currently being done as I have no idea how much the cost is there. Also, this is all in Huntington city limits and doesn’t include other projects elsewhere in Cabell County.

Hal Greer Improvements: $15 million
Thunder Cloud Broadband: $14 million
New Cabell Huntington Hospital Building: $51 million
Storm water infrastructure improvements: $200 million
Riverfront Upgrade contractually planned to be: $100 million
MU Baseball Field: $25 million
Pritchard Building Renovation: $50 million
Coal Exchange: $12 million (previously announced but haven’t heard anything in a while)
MU Innovation District: $300 million
ACF/BASF Projects: ~$150 million (just an estimate as not everything is finalized)
Keith Albee: $1 million
Bridge Replacement (7 of them): ~$14 million
Black Diamond Facility (Coalfield Develipment): $16 million
Summit Bank (New building on 5th Ave) $2.5 million
Two new Fire Stations: ~$10 million

Like you mentioned, it would be nice to get an update regarding the Coal Exchange building. The same could be said about the Thundercloud project. Both really need to work on communication and providing project updates.

It would be interesting to see if any other time period had this level of investment.

It would be interesting to see. I’m sure there’s a lot of projects I’m not aware of that didn’t get listed. There’s a new senior housing building going in on Hal Greer but I have no idea of the cost involved. Hopefully something will be happening at the former government housing site on Hal Greer soon as well. This also doesn’t include other MU facility upgrades like a new track and new tennis facility, both of which are supposedly being planned.

The City of Huntington and the KYOVA planning commission are planning pedestrian and traffic upgrades to third Ave now between 22nd and 24th streets. This adds more weight to the rumor of a hotel and conference center going in on the old ACF parking lot. It would be nice to get some actual updates on these plans rather than little pieces here and there.

The Housing Market seems to be doing really well in Huntington city limits as well. Several houses that I know of have sold very quickly and have gone for well above the asking prices. Hopefully this leads to lots of existing houses being renovated and some new housing stock as well.

Huntington considers expanding and extending 2 current TIF districts. The most interesting thing is that the Kinetic Park TIF may be expanded to where Meadows Elementary currently is. Hopefully that means development is being planned for that site once the school moves.

Is the Plan 2025 still the current future that we are looking toward or have they adopted a new one beyond the 2025 plan?
