If Marshall can break the top 20 in both of the other polls, it'll be much more difficult for the CFP committee to ignore them. There's a particular bias and influence that may be difficult to overcome though. Time will tell. They have to keep winning handily to build a case though.

MU did beat SMU better than Alabama did so maybe that will mean something to the CFP committee.

Not trying to nitpick, but So. Miss goes by USM. They are the University of Southern Mississippi. Something I would like to add is Marshall also scored 2 more td's on So. Miss than Mississippi State, who beat them by a score of 49-0

Good point. Also, good correction. SMU is Southern Methodist University, I think.

Well...Marshall still hasn't made the CFP committee's top 25. I really thought they'd make it this week!

Up to #18 in both polls now. It'll be interesting to see the CFP list this week. The higher The Herd rises in the AP and Coaches polls, the more difficult it will be to leave them out altogether.

ESPN is currently predicting Marshall to be in the New Year's Eve Peach Bowl (Atlanta) versus Georgia.

Here's the thing they're up against... the new system is geared toward the primary consideration being strength of schedule. It isn't a matter of a particular bias. It is the system. Marshall is having a wonderful season. Their problem is there is not one single Power 5 team on their schedule, and there are dozens of teams that would also probably be undefeated with their schedule.

It is important to remember that the playoffs have little relationship to any polls, or anybody's opinions other than the 12 members of the playoff selection committee. Each member of that committee has very limited influence in and of himself.

It will get worse for Marshall instead of better if they don't alter their method of scheduling. Hamrick has stated that he won't be playing Power 5 teams except for one for ones, and those are going to be increasingly hard to obtain in the future because Power 5 teams absolutely must schedule to strength in order to receive playoff consideration. That is resulting in stronger OOC schedules for teams in that category in future schedule planning. Mid majors will mostly be playing one and dones if they want to play Power 5 programs in the future, unless you are talking about the most marginal Power 5 programs. But, it will be VERY hard for Marshall to get serious consideration playing strictly a mid major schedule.
