An outdoor/sporting goods store would help bring some excitement to the project. Perhaps this project can secure a White House Black Market store to replace the one that left downtown Huntington?
I'm okay with the development getting a Menard's and Aldi. With the major retailers at the Mall and Merritt's Creek, the available anchor type store is fewer to choose from currently.
I was hoping for Tanyard to land a hhgregg location. I think it would do well. I'm also hoping Tanyard can bring in a few new restaurants, something like Bonefish, Red Robin or Noodles and Company and stores like New Balance, Fossil, J. Jill, Clarks or Eddie Bauer. The project needs some stores with higher name recognition.
you would think the crossing would have a developer if its a upscale large development. it must be as bad as Tanyard with its announcements. with neither starting anything it seems likely we wouldn't see anything finished till at least 2018. the same people that are doing tanyard is doing westview in Morgantown. tanyard was announced way before but they have already posted a Applebees, Sheetz, and Drury Inn . Macy's has been leaked and a childrens hospital. its a big area in morgantown with 2 shopping areas, offices and housing. fed ex distribution center and at least one corporate headquaters. it should be nice when done. hopefully both areas end up with nice additions to there cities

I thought I remembered Tanyard being announced way before West View. Heck the road running to West View is currently being built and the plot being cleared. I wonder what truly is going on with Tanyard.
it was announced first but I think they dragged there feet and people dropped out or committed to the crossing. I would think there would be a site or some announcement as to who the developer is for the crossing or it will end up even worse than Tanyard. I haven't seen anything about the crossing.

I do agree that is likely what happened to some extent with these two developments: Due to a variety of reasons, Tanyard Station began hemorrhaging its blockbuster tenants to The Crossing. I have a feeling this has something to do with taxes, local politics, etc because The Crossing property is outside Barboursville city limits, which one would think would significantly reduce these major businesses tax burden yet still practically be "in Barboursville" and in close proximity to the interstate (just like Tanyard Station). When it all boiled down to the bottom line, I'm certain that it made more economic sense for these companies.
The very unfortunate thing about The Crossing is exactly as you stated: no website and no announcements. That being said, if you drive by the land there is a sign announcing the development and it does advertise upscale retail, restaurants, and lodging. Unlike Tanyard Station, there is actually some dirt moving and you can typically see site prep (albeit small-scale at this point) ongoing most days of the week. What else do we know? The link below from Old Colony states that 6 prime acres are for sale and ready for immediate development with another 60 acres of developable land in the works. The listing does note that there is a site plan on file with the listing agent. Finally, we know from communicating with the listing agent (and others) that the development has applied for and is awaiting the green light from the state to construct a new permanent entrance to the property which we have been told has been ridiculously delayed but should start within the next 1-2 months and after that the development should come together much more quickly. My gut tells me that after that entrance is constructed they will make a major announcement regarding the development and probably even get a website up and running at that point.
For what it is worth, I have contacted the listing agent for the property, Mark Napier (email is on the listing), numerous times and he has always promptly responded to my inquiries, but of course not able to provide any great detailed information.
And further trying to capitalize on these two megadevelopments is a small piece of property being advertised at the Merritt's Creek Farm Shopping Plaza intersection for $575,000 with a description of 1.32 acres and being located "between The Crossing and Tanyard Station" and the accompanying map indeed illustrates this. Once the larger developments are more solid, this piece of property, although small, will be very lucrative for development.
I've had doubts about Tanyard Station from the beginning. That land has been attempted for development in the past and has been deemed to be too contaminated from being a rail yard. Then you throw in an endangered bat and I'm sure that makes companies a little uneasy about committing. It's a great location but has a lot of existing issues to deal with. When you have another option less than a mile away with no environmental concerns and fewer taxes, why wouldn't you wait to see if that one pans out? I think The Crossing just suffers more from having a local owner who isn't a "developer" in the usual sense of the word with regards to updates, advertising, etc.
The people involved with Tanyard likely also have some higher up connections to help "stall" some aspects of The Crossing to help themselves out, such as the new entrance. Companies probably want the entrance and more site prep at The Crossing before committing. If that is stalled until the bat has gone, that evens the game. If The Crossing had the entrance 2 months ago like it should've, it might have been game over for Tanyard Station to be able to do what it has planned. It wouldn't surprise me to see more maneuvering behind the scenes than just competing over businesses.
