Milton WV Grand Patrician Resort shady deal? (sale, hotel)

There's a lot of valid questions being raised in this article about Milton and this deal. It screams corruption. The taxpayers of Cabell County have been put at risk.



I've always questioned the drawing power of putting a resort in Milton, considering the locale and the difficult logistics of getting to the area. Why come to Milton when you can go to The New River Gorge NP, Snowshoe, The Greenbrier, etc. if you want to come to West Virginia?

The sale of such property for cheap prices isn't all that uncommon when redevelopment and an increased tax base are planned. The question will be, were there any penalties for not completing the work and what happens if the company just walks away? If the city put in clauses to deal with such a case, it could work out well if they partner with another developer to finish the job. If not, they may be in for a headache and a huge liability moving forward.
