FYI, we do have an organic grocery. Garden Cove at the corner of Pratt and Meridian is locally owned, everything there is organic and they have a good selection. Additionally, the South Huntsville Farmers market on South Parkway and the Madison County Farmer's Market on Cook Ave (off North Parkway) have a great selection of fresh, locally grown produce as well. It isn't all organic though.

Thanks so much for that info! Will definetly check that out!

Yes, I did hear about the wonderful Farmers market and look forward to that, as well!

Decatur is really a nice place...but gets a bad rap due to not growing as explosively as Huntsville. Still, there are new subdivisions to be found, and its older houses give it a charm that modern suburbs lack (most people don't seem to "get" charm these days, unfortunately). I'd say Decatur would be a good place to look at.

Thanks highlandtodd! We are going to do just that. Really not into
cookie cutter homes and living in communities with HOA. Just don't
want to live by a chicken farm! LOL!

MsMuir, there is a good bit of info on the internet about Decatur. The local newspaper is at decaturdaily dot com. If you go to it, there is a link on the left that says "About Decatur and Morgan County." That will take you to a newcomers site that will link you to other local sites. And please feel free to PM me for anything.

I live in Madison in a 20 year old house that looks nothing like any other house on the street. My lot is ~1/2 acre wooded with native growth pine, sassafras, and sweetgum. I get a little tired of posters who condemn Madison as "cookie cutter" homes. Also by the way there is no HOA and the residents are a nice mix of older retired couples and young families none of whom have shown signs of being obsessed with keeping up with the Joneses.

I have a friend that used to live in a similar neighborhood off of Eastview. They do exist in Madison, but they are few and far between compared to cookie-cutter mass suburbia.

Well if all you look at is the new developments off County Line Road, I would agree. But if you take the time to get off the main roads I think that you will find that non cookie cutter houses are not few and far between. In the area you described off Eastview (both to the north and south), there are numerous older developments of lovely distinctive homes on large wooded lots. The same can be said for Dublin which runs between Eastview and Hughes, a large area just south of University and east of Rainbow Mtn, as well as the area across Hughes Road from Discovery Middle School. Unfortunately most of the young people today only want brand new houses and since there is still vacant land in Madison the developers are more than willing to build.

There is not a Whole Foods but there is a similar store called Fresh Market. I do not believe that it is connected to Whole Foods. I know that Whole Foods recently bought out a major competitor, I think the name was Wild Oats, but I don't know of any connection to our Fresh Market. Hope this clears it up for you.
