My family and I moved to the area (we're in Marshall Co., just past the Madison Co. line) in February, 2010. We built a beautiful home and planned to raise our two kids here - they're 6 and 4. Sadly, my husband was diagnosed with cancer 9 months after we moved here, and passed away last month. My parents are in HSV so I will probably move closer to them as it is a 40-minute drive one-way. Not a big deal when my husband was alive, but obviously, I'll need them more now.

Melanie, I am so sorry for your loss. Really, I can't even imagine.
While it is not specifically for single parents, I highly recommend the MOMS Club. There are several chapters in the area just google to find one closest to you. It is really a great group of women with all kinds of different situations and very supportive. I'm sure they would welcome you. The vast majority of their activities are moms only, or moms & kids only.
