No it isn't locally owned.

It's owned by Calkins Media out of PA.

They own a few newspapers and a few small market TV stations.

WHNT is owned by a corporation called "Local TV" of all things. They own about 17 stations.

WAFF is owned by Raycom out of Montgomery who owns 40 some odd stations.

"Local" news, with almost no exception is fear-mongering tripe or corporate servitude.

The concept of letting broadcasters use our public airwaves (that we own, by the way) and in return provide a public service died in the 1980s.

Go watch "Rich Media, Poor Democracy" or "This Land is Your Land" for free on line.

We've been robbed and it wasn't a "young male last seen heading west on University Drive"

We have "big HDTV sets" and the picture quality on WAAY-31 is fine at our house.
