I never knew Alabama had 3 State nicknames
The YellowHammer State
The Cotton State
The Heart of Dixie
The others states have 1.

The State Flower is the Camellia.
The State Nut is the Pecan <figures>
The State Fruit is the Blackberry
The State Shell is the Johnstone's Junonia

Very interesting.

Ole Roy is A state nut not THE state nut.

Many have claimed the title over the years.

Many were elected during the last election. Sadly, I voted for my state nuts.

State fossil for years was George Wallace.

Actually, Alabama does have a state fossil: the Basilosaurus cetoides
Read about it here: http://www.archives.state.al.us/emblems/st_fosil.html

We also have an official rock, a mineral, a butterfly, dance, flower, soil, amphibian, and an official state whiskey. Among other stuff: http://www.archives.state.al.us/emblems/emblems.html

Yes, the Legislature determines all this important information.

When you visit the information center at the Garden of the Gods you can see a scale model of Mt. Cheaha compared to Pike's Peak. Pike's Peak is taller but not as green. For more information on Cheaha read this:

Cheaha Mountain - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

....anyone know who Cheaha was?

I hope that this isn't misunderstood because I love the state of AL. HOWEVER, when it claims to be "the BEAUTIFUL" I choke. It is a BEAUTIFUL state with terrain and natural beauty that most natives do not appreciate. HOWEVER, I am appalled at the amount of trash that people just throw out along the sides of the roads. I see a total disregard for the environment. It is very unfortunate.

When we lived in the upper midwest, little towns and roads were clean and neat. We found a more general sense of regard for the environment.
