I'm moving to decatur soon and am looking to rent a townhouse, single level apartment, house. What neighborhoods should i stay out of. Property management companies? Also I need to switch gastroentrologist. Would be willing to go to huntsville or madison for the specialist. What about family practice doctors/peditricians. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks to the economy, Decatur has plenty of townhouses, houses and apartments for rent. There are pockets all over town that you may not want to be in, and pockets that are just fine. Take a look around the neighborhood. If there are multiple cars in the yard, trash, people hanging out in the middle of the day...those are your not-so-great neighborhoods.
As a generality, I'd avoid anything in northwest Decatur.
There are several good gastroenterologists here, and a number of family practice doctors - we've had several new, young doctors set up practice. Some have offices in Decatur AND Huntsville/Madison. One of our hospitals was just bought out by Huntsville Hospital. The bigger of our two hospitals is associated with HH, but is still an independent, not-for-profit, publicly chartered hospital. HH is where you'd go for the next-higher level of care. Beyond that, Birmingham has world-renowned doctors and medical facilities. Nashville is also a possibility, depending on your problem.

Welcome to Decatur!
