Can y'all suggest a good place to go for a special lunch on a Saturday? I'm looking for someplace to go after the UAH commencement. This year they're combining the grad students with the undergrad students on Saturday @ 10 a.m. instead of having the grad students' ceremony on the preceeding Friday evening.

In addition to going out to lunch immediately after the ceremony (just the graduate & parents), I'm also thinking of buying a gift card, or making arrangements to cover the bill + tip, for a nice dinner for the grad and a few friends (maybe six in total.) So, suggestions for two restaurants would be appreciated. Thanks!

Grille 29
Connor's
Phuket Thai <-- something out of the norm
Cotton Row
James' Steakhouse

I have been to the first 3 and they were very good. I have not eaten at the last 2, but have heard good things. Huntsville isn't exactly a mecca for celebratory dining options, assuming you don't want a chain restaurant.

Thanks! We clearly need to spend more time in HSV/Madison. I'm impressed with your list of restaurant suggestions (and have quite an appetite after reading their menus.) I think most of those will appeal to our honoree.

When my brother graduated we took him to Grill 29. I was impressed.

James Steakhouse is my favorite place for nice evenings.

If you have a large party I would make a reservation even if its not needed.......for work lunches we go to Connors and they arrange the tables beforehand and it saves time

My money is that Connor's is already booked.

Everybody loves that place. I went there one time after a local event like the UAH commencement. IT WAS CRAZY.

I was just there for lunch, bad timing on my part.

I say go local. You can't go wrong with 1892 East Restaurant & Tavern in Five Points.

All the places listed so far in this thread have been local, non-chains...well, except for Connor's. I believe they have 1 other location in Knoxville, TN.

I've never tried 1892 East, but have heard favorable reviews.

1892 East is wonderful and I love Commerce Kitchen. I have been there when they had a large party and they accommodated them with no problem.

The food is great, the menu is sure to appeal to appeal to all ages and they have great service.

The shrimp and grits is the best I have had
