Default In Town for Golf and Good Food!

Hello Huntsville friends,

I will in town this week Tues.-Fri. to enjoy some golf, food, and other fun activities with my wife. I took a week off work, and she is off in the summers as a school teacher, so we decided to take a little trip.

1. We will be staying close to the Robert Trent Jones course in Hampton Cove... what restuarants would you recommend in either Hampton Cove, or Hunstville, that offer cajun style food?

2. With dedicating a day to golf, a day for the Bridge Street Mall (i think that's the name of it), what would you recommend to fill in our third day? Any must see atractions?

3. Lastly, to my golfer friends on City Data, would you recommend the Highlands course, or the River course at the Hampton Cove location? I've played at a few of the more Southern locations, and really enjoyed it (Montgomery, Opelika, Birmingham).

Thanks!

Tim's Cajun Kitchen is the only "real" cajun restaurant in Huntsville IMO

Default Tim's

Have you tried Tim's lately? I went a couple of weeks ago it the quality was greatly improved. They did go through a period where the portions were small and the quality was lacking but I think it's now back to where it was.

For Cajun, I like PoBoy Factory on Andrew Jackson Way (from Hampton Cove west on Governors Drive / US431, turn right onto California / AJ Way, PoBoy ~ 3 miles on left).

I can't imagine Bridge Street mall filling a day, unless you're going to take in a movie while you're there. Plenty of restaurants available there.

The Space and Rocket Center and the Botanical Garden are off I565 near Bridge Street. The Garden has a cafe for lunch. Downtown has a nice collection of antebellum homes, plus Harrison Brothers Hardware (oldest hardware store in AL), Museum of Art (with nice cafe), Big Spring Park. Cotton Row, Sam and Gregs, and James Steakhouse are nice restaurants - try James for cocktails.

If you'd like to see nature while on a short hike: Flint River Preserve at Hampton Cove (river), Monte Sano State Park (mountain views / bluffs / waterfalls, umm, waterdrips), Green Mountain Nature Trail (mountain lake with covered bridge walkway). Each of these are within ~10-15 mins of your hotel.

Enjoy your visit and remember - they call it 'golf' because all the other four-letter words were taken...

Thanks for the replies! Sounds like Po' Boy Factory is going to have to be a dinner stop one night.

Reactionary,

I think we are planning on doing some shopping, and then dinner and a movie at Bridge Street.... probably sleep in a bit that day and check out the space center that you mentioned before going to the mall. Thanks!

I don't do "greatly improved."

Dang, I'm so late to the party I don't get to suggest anything.
