Thinking about moving to Huntsville
I'm thinking about moving to Huntsville in about 5 years with a friend/business partner. How is the night life over there? Raising a family? I want to get a job in the IT sector, is there a great IT need in Huntsville? Also I want to know what the weather is like, I like the rain and cold. I'm in California right now, I would like to know how much overall how different it is.

Huntsville's economy is built on Aerospace, Defense and high tech. The Cummings Research Park is the 2nd largest in the U.S. and 4th largest in the world.

Alabama has four seasons: The Spring and Fall are mild and the weather is beautiful. The Summers are hot and humid and the winter is mild with highs in the low 50's but there is rainfall. Huntsville has hilly areas and other areas that are flat...before the arrival of the German rocket team after WWII, Huntsville was a small town whose economy was based in some ways on cotton farming and cotton farms still dot the countryside...
Huntsville has some good school systems and is a good place to raise a family.

Who knows what will happen in 5 years.. I lived in Huntsville back in 65-70 when there were hugh layoffs for the Arsenal and even at Marshall.. We had to leave because of the layoffs.
It does get cold in the winter and it does rain/snow/ice at times. Summers can be brutal as this year was or just hot.. spring and fall are nice

Our winters tend to be mild compared to most of the country. They are also usually rainy, but have not been for the past couple of years. This summer was severely hot. Until yesterday, we had not had any rain for the past month. We are around 30 inches under the normal amount of rain....we are beginning to experience sinkholes due to the lowered water table. So you may be moving to Huntsville? One of your others posts declares that you are in the process of becoming a Mexican citizen.

Well I've only been here a week and a half (also from California, all my life), and I'll say I havn't had a moment of regret. We just started the process of buying a beautiful home that I couldn't have bought in a million years in California, and I have yet to see any way in which my qualify of life is diminished by moving here. I've spoken with several newcomers as well as people who have been here for years, or all their lives. Everyone seems very happy with Huntsville and thinks it is a great place to live, work, and raise a family. My husband is in the aerospace/defense industry.

Gee, nothing, I guess. Just seems if you want to become a Mexican citizen you would want to live in Mexico. Silly me. A 17-year-old certainly has the right to change his/her mind.

In 5 years? You're kidding, right? There will be far too much going on in this quiet little southern rocket-making town over the next 5 years to speculate today about what its nightlife, raising families or anything else of substance might be then. Ask us again in 2011 or 2012.
