Hello!! Have another question for y'all. We are looking at renting a house in Arab and it has gas in the kitchen and they say it is gas heat too...I've never had gas heat and was curious if it is expensive??? Is it more expensive in Arab? (that county?)...Any help or info would be greatly appreciated! Have a great weekend!!

It's not as expensive as all electric. A heat pump might be a little cheaper, but then you've got cool air coming in through the vents. Yes, it comes in at 68 or 72 degrees or whatever you've set the thermostat at, but it feels cold to me. I love my gas heat.

As long as it is natural gas, cost per therm is way down. If it is PROPANE, it is much more expensive.

This topic has been beat to death here as well as other sites with HVAC technical forums. In the SouthEast, our winters are usually so mild; electric heat pumps are much more cost efficient. Especially if you have a newer more energy efficient heat pump. Another thing to consider is that natural gas and propane usually fluctuate quite a bit in price. It may be cheap for a year or two and then be outrageous the next few years, whereas; electricity stays at a stable predictable price with normal year to year inflation increases.
