When I went to the Madison Gas Company to have the gas shut off, during construction, I learned about outdoor gas tankless water heaters.

I was told I would get a $350 rebate on a tankless model and $250 for a tank gas model.

I can get a nice Rheem online for $550, that would be more than adequate for our smaller home.

Going to install myself, just wanted to know if anyone else here had one or had experience with them.

I am pretty excited about it now.

I installed an Aquastar propane tankless water heater into our system years ago; we have a manufactured home so it could be considered as outdoors. I would never go back to a tank if possible; if you live where temperatures go below 32F be sure to leave drips going, (we have been down to -20 with no problems).

I did a bunch of research on tankless water heaters a while back. I was looking into a Rinnai but gave-up when I found out our neighborhood was never going to get natural gas. The Rinnai site has a nice savings calculator to compare annual costs associated with electric/gas tank vs gas tankless systems.

Awesome experience with them. We did a huge remodel of our first home and we put Rinnai heaters in. And, we were lucky that the house we bought earlier this year has them as well. It has a combination though.

Rinnai is the best, by far. The tankless systems are awesome, as long as it is gas powered. I am awaiting the day my water heater dies so I can replace it with a Rinnai

I doubt these rebates apply to new construction, but I may have to check w/ the gas company on the details just to be sure...

Yeah she said it would apply if I didn't have a gas heater already. But I bet they would give you something. I mean you either go with electric or gas, so by offering you the full rebate they keep you from getting an electric one. It's the same as ditching an electric if you have it.

Same here...when you have to pick and choose where you put your money, we took a chance on this...we won't ever build another house without it!
