Being bonded is important! As some of the other commenters have said, you can ask to see the actual bond form and verify that it's signed and notarized. Then, you can contact their surety provider and file a claim against the bond to recover the cost of damages. As long as the cost of repairs does not exceed the amount of the bond, you'll receive full reimbursement when your claim is proven.

In short, make sure you always ask to see copies of their insurance and bond forms. Learn more about the importance of being bonded here: https://www.suretybonds.com/edu/what...nded-mean.html

Very few contractors are or are required to be bonded anymore.
In order to be Incorporated or LLC they are required to be licensed, liability insured, and either carry work comp insurance or file to be work comp exempt.

I don't think the County will issue an occupational license unless you show them a copy of your general liability insurance coverage. So in this case I really doubt the guy was insured since he told you he didn't have a license.

I would comment that Joe Webster is by no means a large business. I use them for all my tree trimming needs, because they have always been prompt, professional, and courteous and left very little evidence behind to even indicate that they had even been there.
