We received some advertising in the mail this week from a company called "Wow!" From what I can gather on their website, this company bought out/took over Knology in our area. Anyone familiar with them? Is it just Knology with a new name? Their website is rather cutesy and folksy with all kinds of "we're so nice to work with" comments.

We had Knology for years then went to a dish about 4 years ago. We're tired of the dish problems, but I'll put up with them if it means Knology is still the only game in our part of Madison.

Thanks in advance for any advice!

Yes its the same old Knology for now. Soon they will be changing a few things which includes adding their Ultra TV service which looks to be a cool whole-home six tuner DVR system.

Curious, what issues dod you have with knology? I've been a knology customer for 15+ years and have been pretty pleased.

We had three techs in a row who were very unprofessional and didn't seem to know what they were supposed to do. We finally got one that knew his stuff very well, though, and fixed our internet connectivity problem in minutes. All was okay until a couple of years later when we started having all kinds of billing issues - we were charged for premium channels although all we had was basic cable - that dragged on for months. When we finally got it sorted out, we decided to try satellite. It was okay but came with its own set of issues. Several weeks ago, I called Knology to see what kind of deals they had and they told me that we still owed them rent on the modem from our previous contract. I explained that we did return the modem at least 2 weeks before our cut off date but they don't have it in their system. As luck would have it, I cannot find a receipt for the modem return and don't recall if we even got one. I asked why we were never notified about the issue but they couldn't give us an answer. I also asked for an itemized statement but that hasn't been provided yet despite having requested something in writing twice more. If I owe a bill, I don't mind paying it (okay, I admit I'll fight it to some degree!) but I'd like to see how they come up with their numbers.

So, if this Wow is Knology I'm sure they have the old records so I'll see if I can get to the bottom of it all. If they are as warm and fuzzy as their website says, maybe I'll get to the bottom of things.

Thanks for the quick response, everyone!

I have noticed that my internet has been faster and more consistent the past month. I get one of the fastest packages and I was getting horrible download and upload speeds at the beginning of the year. But they are better now as this transistion is completing. Coincidence? Possibly.

WOW is based out of Michigan I believe and is much larger than Knology ever was. In the most recent Consumer Reports, they were ranked either 1 or 2 in customer satisfaction, internet speed and all the other factors. I was impressed they were that high.

Nope, not a marketing name change. WOW bought Knology for $750 million ( Wow Buys Knology for $750 Million - NYTimes.com ).

WOW has an offering called UltraTV that looks really cool.

WOW! ULTRA TV - YouTube

They indicated that they will make it available sometime for us. I hope it's soon because the old Scientific Atlanta box I have is showing it's age.

Also we should have access to HBO GO real soon... finally...
