Last night was the first time I've seen someone using an electronic cigarette in an area (non-smoking) restaurant. I personally don't have any problem whatsoever with these because the most offensive part, the smell is non-existent. However it raised the question of how these will be treated in non-smoking establishments. It will be interesting to see how it plays out if they become more popular. Should they be allowed in restaurants? Movies? anywhere/everywhere? Has anyone seen these being used around town in areas where smoking is prohibited?

While they do not smell and do not create health issues, I do find them distracting. Mostly the conversation from others about if they should be smoking or not.

Yes, they are and should be allowed anywhere, because it is not smoking. There is no smoke involved, just water vapor.

It is not smoking so the existing laws do not apply. Only someone self centered with blatant disregard for others would use one in a movie theater. That is one of those situations where either them, myself or both would be thrown out of the theater if someone in front of me was blowing it up in the air in my view or even over to the side causing a distraction. If it becomes a problem, I would imagine theaters would put their own policy in place forbidding their use.

It doesn't work that way. Speaking from YEARS of experience.

Not really. The payroll budgets in movie theatres are thinner than a fashion model. Corporate generally takes the attitude that audiences are herds to be moved in and out. I was with one circuit that fought strenuously against the use of cell phones in the auditoriums and was eventually forced to back off. The days of the movie palaces with an assigned usher to each aisle and level are long gone.

I think they are banned on airplanes though.

Goodness, and that bothers you? Worrying about what others are worrying about?

They aren't nearly as distracting as fools yapping on their cell phones or texting.

And actually, depending on the flavor, they do have a smell. I vape chocolate/coffee and people tell me it smells like caramel.

I think they are silly.

Like some guy with a bluetooth headset.

BUT I think they are loads better than the real thing. I am glad they exist for those who need them.
