My daughter is trying to get a driver's license and needs to take the road test. I'm coming from Madison but, for obvious reasons, wish to avoid Huntsville. Which of the two is easier in terms of testing and/or wait? Secondly, how early should we get there? Thanks.

Either Decatur or Athens are better than HSV hands down. But be sure you go when it is NOT RAINING at all....when I went to Athens in April for my son to get his learner's permit it started sprinkling and she shut the driving tests down.

Try to get there at least right as they open, if not before. Also, there was a lady there who had made an appointment for her son, so you might check on that. She said they have very few scheduled appointments available and they are hard to get.

The DMV's here conduct actual road driving tests? That makes me think of sitcoms where the kid is all freaked out, LOL.

Everywhere I've lived the state makes you do x # of hours at a driving school, the school does a quick test and gives you a peice of paper that you bring to the DMV and you get your liscense.
