My father-in-law was in the military and I've been able to get a USAA account.

Redstone has a check deposit app for some phone companies. I have Straight Talk however and can't use it.

I haven't had a brick & mortar bank for years. I just use an online bank and it's been great for me. I think most online banks provide similar benefits: free ATM (any bank), decent interest rate, check deposit app, great customer service, etc. If you can't get USAA there are other online banks without membership restrictions.

It has to do with your phone, not your phone company. https://www.redfcu.org/tips-tools/mobile-banking.aspx

I use PNC Bank and it has worked fairly well. The only problem I have had is with post-card checks (mostly small rebate checks that are not in an envelope). It has trouble with those but I have never really had any problems with any other type.
