The Times also provided graphs adjusted for poverty, which showed higher correlation in the case of reading (3rd=r2=.80 and 5th=r2=.82) than in math (3rd=r2=.63 and 5th=r2=.64).

The point of this was to identify schools that out-performed or under-performed expectations. For example, New Market consistently outperformed expectations, perhaps indicating superior management and teaching at a school with about half the students receiving free or reduced price lunches.
