Default Large Lot Subdivisions Southwest of HSV?

Our family is more than likely going to be relocating to the Huntsville area. We'd like to move more to the southwest of Huntsville and are looking for a subdivision that has offers larger acreage lots, as well as a good school system.

Any insight would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks

You can check valleymls.com for houses. Sorry I can't help with the areas as I live in SE of H'ville.

I know others will respond who may give you some nabes.

Well, I live in SW Huntsville (around the middle of the city) and am looking to get out of it! I would not really recommend it for families with young children. The school test results here are not too good. Extreme southwest Huntsville is better (this would be near Hobbs Road and Memorial Parkway). There are some new subdivisions here that are nice.

However, a few miles west of Huntsville is the city of Madison, (it's in the same county, but has a different school system). It has very good schools and is family-oriented. There are MANY subdivisions, older and newer that are nice in Madison. Madison is only about 10-15 minutes from Huntsville and many families who work in Huntsville live in Madison. New house prices are between $189K and up to $600K. Older homes, but nice ones, can be had for $110K and up. Also, traffic-wise, I-565 connects Madison and Huntsville and traffic on this road moves swiftly between the two cities.

If you have any specific questions I could help you with, just let me know! I have lived in Huntsville for 30 years (since I was 6) and would be happy to help you! You will love Huntsville! There is one thing I have heard over and over from those who transfer in: People dread coming here (all the Alabama stereotypical stuff), but once they get here, they don't want to leave!

First getting to a definition of Southwest Huntsville would be helpful. Huntsville is on both sides of the arsenal, so I can only assume you are referring to the west side of the arsenal. Parts of this area is in Madison, part in Huntsville and Part in Triana.

For those in the Madison and Triana area, they attend Madison City Schools, The rest either Huntsville or County schools. Land in this part of the county is in high demand and acreage can be pricey. All the developments on-going that I know of will be small to traditional lots. You would probably want to look for an older home for a large lot. Not too far from Madison is Limestone County and you may want to look there as well.
