I guess that answers my question. I believe their website mentioned that they have offices across the country so I would assume they could write a policy for a home in AL. They've got outstanding customer service. Always treated me well here in FL.

Amica is available here; I have it.

I *hate* it, and I've never even tried to make a claim. I'll be changing soon. The worst customer service ever award.

Make sure you buy the sinkhole coverage. It is not included in the standard policy.

Their sinkhole policy did not cover this property, as they did not deem this a "sinkhole". Last I heard they were still in litigation with Allstate, but that was about a year ago. The owners moved next door to clients of mine in Madison not too long after this happened.

But agreed that everyone should have the policy. Its cheap, about $60/year.

2 Cars: $1050 a year with $1000 deductible.

Don't know what to tell you. They have never questioned me about gun ownership. And, I'm sure that they figure that more than a few homeowners in FL have weapons in the house. Back in 2004 when Hurricane Charlie came through here, I had made a claim to Amica for a downed oak tree in the backyard. At the time, the claim wouldn't have been more than the deductable so I never pursued the claim. A year later, my roof started leaking and ultimately needed to be replaced. Just on a whim (and not expecting anything to come of it), I contacted Amica to see if they would cover any of the roof even after a year. They said that since I had initially filed a claim, they would cover the cost of the roof even after a year. No problems with the cost. Roofer was paid promptly. I stand by their customer service.

Get a quote on a home before you even bother putting in an offer. Depending on the history of the home some companies may not insure it. That would be good to find out before becoming attached to a home. Also it will give you a better idea of what you total mortgage payment will be. They will pull a C.L.U.E. report on the home and can tell past claims history. Some homes with multiple water claims may become very expensive to insure. The older a home is the more expensive it is to insure. MAKE SURE THE POLICY IS FOR GUARANTEED REPLACEMENT. Travelers is good especially if you are with Redstone. You get a discount with them. American Strategic out of St. Petersburg FL is probably one of the cheapest. If you ever plan on having a trampoline ask about that. Most companies don't allow them and some allow with certain stipulations.

Just FYI....Travelers is one of the WORST WORST WORST companies when you have to file a claim. I would never recommend them after what I have seen in regards to paying claims.

We have had three clients get a complete run around with them over claims, and my mom did as well. They tried to completely screw her, she ended up seeking legal recourse. Their customer service sucks.

We had an investor client who had a compression joint on their master bath toilet burst and flood the house.....all the way down to the basement. THREE LEVELS. We had three bids.....all around a $60k estimate give or take a few thousand. Travelers offered them $14k. Luckily, he writes policy for (yes) Travelers in California and knew how to get his claim paid in full quickly, but even he dropped all his Traveler's policies after that.

They are cheap insurance, and you get what you pay for.
