Old thread, but to answer the OP: for records and vintage stereo equipment try Vertical House Records at Lowe Mill - it's not really a thrift store per se, but much of their inventory is used.

I have a ton of old LPs from the 1970s and 1980s rock, progressive rock, jazz, punk. Is this a place that I could sell these albums? Any other suggestions? I go back to LA a lot (assuming there's lots of places that buy used records) but there's no way I could lug them there.

Update: I called these guys and they wold me to wait till next month.

Donate? You may have a good point. If each album I donate has a market value of $15, then maybe, it is better to write them off. However, the tax rules changed in the past tax year or two, I'll have to read up on them. Used to be up to $500/year with no non-receipted item more than $250 (or something like that).

Probably have to donate over multiple years so as not to go over $500.
