They are trying to get the young folks to come in. Belk is perceived as being for the older crowd.

Yep (except I was greeted with loud rap). I found a manager to speak with before leaving.
Yeah, that place is not very appealing.

That was probably coming from the MAC cosmetics counter. If so, it's nothing new. It's part of the brands MO. Every MAC counter in every city/store I've ever been to has the music thumping. Doubtful was in the rest of the store. MAC markets itself to a younger, edgier crowd ( even though middle age women like me like some of their products ).

There are a few men who work at the cosmetic counters and they obviously wear make-up. Would that make you turn around & walk out too?

Some people just can't be pleased. Oh well.

Yes, the noise emanated from the cosmetics area and could be heard (loudly) throughout the first floor. MAC / Belk may want to market themselves to an edgier crowd, but few of their actual customers fit that demographic.

Re: males working cosmetics and wearing product - IMO product knowledge is important for employees. Back in the day I dressed goth at times (eye makeup, fingernail polish, lipstick), so I might laugh a bit, however a flagship retail store should be as appealing as possible to their market (most of whom do not respond favorably to males wearing makeup).

Can't be pleased? Perhaps you could change your username to Jon Snow

Well, I only buy cosmetics at Christmas time, so the one chance a year they have at my money could be lost by a dude wearing makeup. The music I can ignore, but not that. Call me what you will, but there it is. When I walk into a hair cut place, if they have a dude, I tell them up front he isn't touching me. My eye doctor, family doctor, and dentist are all women. No guys. I guess I'm channeling my inner Archie Bunker.

Game of Thrones. In this case meant as a gentle dig (because I usually like you).

Even your doctors and dentists? That's going a little far! Wow. Why so threatened by a male being close to you in a professional setting? Sounds like you have some issues.

I know of that Jon Snow, just bc the hubs watches GofT, but I'm not into it. So I still don't get the dig! Probably better that way.
