Pizzeria on track to open this summer
By Karen Middleton karen@athensnews-courier.com Pizza patrons used to driving to East Limestone will find a shorter trip when Village Pizza opens on the Athens square. Owner Josh Tarokh said the business in the old Cluxton’s Jewelry building on the northwest corner of the square should be open by summer. “We would like to open soon,” Tarokh said. “We’re moving slow in small steps to make sure we’re doing everything right so it’s hard to say, but I would say we would be open by summer.” The Athens City Council is expected to approve the business for alcohol sales at its Monday meeting. Tarokh said the menu would be the same as the East Limestone store but will also include beer. “We don’t want to add too much and not be able to come through,” he said. “The only thing we know how to do is make pizza.” Tarokh said the business would be a family restaurant. “You can either dress nice or just in jeans and T-shirt and be okay,” he said. “It’s just a family restaurant.” The Cluxton’s building was sold at auction in 2007 after former owner Kent Harris moved the business to a U.S. 72 East strip mall. |

Bellancino's web site says they have a location in Madison. I rode around yesterday looking for it. Went to Whitesburg and ate lunch. They said they closed the Madison location. We ordered a sausage and pepperoni pizza and the cheese, crust and sauce was a 10. They did not put enough meat on it which made it and the one I had Saturday night a solid 6 on a national rating scale. I am going to see if I can order double toppings next trip and see how it is. I think it has promise of a 9 or 10 based on national ratings ratings. What little meat was on it was good. Will update rating if better.
Updated local ratings: Bellancino's 8 Terry's 7 would be 8 if eat in. Tony's 6.8 Village 5.9 Hunt Bros. 5 Big Ed's 1 If rated compared to other parts of the country I would deduct 2 points each national ratings, but this is how I rated them localy. Of course this is my personal rating and opinion based on my taste buds. |
