If you have DirecTV you will no longer be able to watch channel WAFF (48). WAFF was not able to reach an agreement with DirecTV to do so. Maybe at some point in the future they will get this resolved. Will people in north Alabama even care?

Of course if you are really desperate you could put up an antenna and watch WAFF (48) for free over the air.

For free should be the only way to watch local stations. WAFF pulls this crap at least with one provider each time contracts are to be resigned.

Raycom Media is based in Montgomery..their affilates include WAFF, and stations in Columbus Ga, Montgomery among many others

Raycom, an employee-owned company, is one of the nation's largest broadcasters and owns and/or provides services for 53 television stations in 37 markets and 18 states. Raycom stations cover 13.1% of U.S. television households and employ nearly 4,000 individuals in full and part-time positions.

I totally agree. I remember when AMC was holding out against Dish last year. All while bad mouthing Dish network for not compromising on the price hike they wanted. As much as we hate cable companies, they aren't fully to blame on the high prices. I would gladly get an antenna if WAFF was that needed in my house, but all I can say is good riddance.

Thats a great idea, limit the number of people that can watch your programming.

Meh.... I always watch WAFF news in the mornings, but I have an OTA antenna in the attic so it's just one extra button click to watch them. They'll get on board eventually.

So, what other NBC station did Dish replace it with? Or did they?

The WAFF stunt is just going to make me move to another local station for news and weather. I understand the corporate desire for more money, but if they can't get enough from advertisers and want to work to raise my sat. cost even more I'll be on Directv's side. Paying $5 a month for ESPN - which I NEVER watch - is galling enough. Actually, I may end up dropping Directv altogether and just watch live streams of news on the net and pay another dime to Exede for more bandwidth to cover.

I did this for a long time and stil have the capability now. If you ever decide to go this route I can tell you how I am set up to operate. I can still watch 48 OTA, but for those who can't this is a kick in the teeth I'm sure.

I'm not a DTV customer, but I'm not sure I could be on either side of this. Both Raycom and DTV want to maximize their profits.
